The TREK Collection is an OHMistry Project collaboration between myself and OHM Beads. It has been almost a year in the making and we are so excited for the launch TODAY! TREK is a trio of themed beads representing our personal journey...whether that means a spiritual quest, a physical challenge, or the ultimate circle of life. THE BURDEN, THE FEAR, and THE SUMMIT are the three beads in the collection which tie together both iconic symbols of Nepal and stages of our journey through life.
The concept of this collection was inspired by Nepal and Mt. Everest. I have been fascinated by the extreme nature of this trek in particular and for those who dare attempt it, the ultimate goal of reaching the summit - the highest elevation on Earth! Each bead in the trio is a symbol of a stage in "the journey", be it an expedition to the top of Mt. Everest, running a marathon, a sacred pilgrimage, or just surviving the challenges of life. We all have our own 'ultimate destination' with burdens and fear to conquer. These beads have so many different meanings and each of us can interpret them for our own trek through life.
THE BURDEN
The yak is a large, domesticated, and invaluable pack animal of the Himalayas, known as the beast of burden. It is a symbol of brawn, strength, willpower, and progress and represents those traits here on our trek through life. Let this bead remind you not only of the challenges we all undoubtedly encounter in our journey, but of the incredible inner strength humans possess to overcome, survive, and push to the limits to rise above them.
THE FEAR
The yeti is a mythical creature rooted in folklore of the Sherpa people of eastern Nepal. It is said to inhabit the Himalayan mountain range and is a symbol of danger and fear, representing both here in our trek through life. Fear alerts us to the presence of peril and threat of harm, both physical and psychological. Wear this formidable bead to remind yourself to embrace and trust your instinctual emotions and your biological response to danger, without letting them hold you back.
THE SUMMIT
Everest is Earth’s highest mountain, found in the Himalayas between China and Nepal. It is said to be blessed with spiritual energy and one must show reverence when on this hallowed terrain. Here on our trek through life, as one of the most sacred mountains in the world, Mt. Everest represents the beauty, unpredictability, danger, and awesome majesty of our existence. Select this magnificent bead as a symbol of reaching your highest elevation, finding your true self, being satisfied, self-actualized, and remembering all you have experienced on your journey to the summit.
This trio of beads in the TREK collection has spiritual and powerful inspiration behind it, as well as being deeply sentimental to me personally. The honour of being able to share these three symbols of Nepal is overwhelming. I hope you will find a personal connection to the meanings behind these phenomenal beads the team at OHM has so wonderfully created based on my ideas.
