I have been kept busy with a recovering dog. Poor old fella had to have a small growth removed from his eyelid and some dental work. He is fine but is being a very whiny, clingy patient so I have no time to get my work done, let alone anything fun! The bikes are finally down off the ceiling, delayed by vacations and a newly painted garage floor that we discovered after the fact, takes about 28 days to fully cure! Sigh...the great weather days were passing us by as we impatiently waited to start riding again. I also have so many photos to scrapbook, a couple of quilts desperately needing to be worked on, and videos in my mind I want to film.
For now I thought I'd share my homemade iced tea treat. While we were in the States, both in Disney and Vegas, I really took a liking to refreshing UNsweetened bottled iced tea. Here in Canada we commonly find sweetened commercially prepared iced tea - either with lots of sugar or artificial substitutes. I decided to make my own iced tea so I could control the sweetness.
I used THIS RECIPE for the Ultimate Iced Tea from Tetley. The secret of most versions I found was to add a pinch of baking soda to the tea to eliminate any bitterness and maintain a pleasing colour. I reduced the sugar to 1/8th of a cup in the whole jug of tea...you can't really taste it at all but as it was my first batch I gave it a try. I was basing that amount on Weight Watcher points (that came to 1 point a glass) but I'd probably make it next time with no sugar. I really enjoy the pure tea taste of unsweetened tea and it is so restorative to me on a hot day. As a big tea drinker it's nice to be able to still have that satisfying 'cuppa' even if it's absolutely boiling outside!
I just got back from a follow-up vet appointment and the dog is healing well. Unfortunately, he still has to keep the terrible cone on until the end of the weekend. He is banging into everything, including my legs, and I have the bruises to prove it! Have a great day!
