I am all about having the right tool for the job and when I saw Jill 4 Today using a cool but unfamiliar-to-me dough mixing whisk, I had to check it out. I discovered it's a Danish Dough Whisk perfect for mixing heavy dough prior to kneading. There is less sticking and it is easier to clean than a spoon. I do the majority of my bread kneading in the KitchenAid mixer but initially, and when making the chef and sourdough starter, I need to combine ingredients by hand.
I found the whisk on-line at Lee Valley but once again, checked my favourite local kitchen supply store (when I went to pick up my WellnessMats) and sure enough, they had a Danish Dough Whisk in stock. (I thought that would be a pretty obscure ask!). I was excited to try it out since Jill has found it to be very helpful.
It's a funny design but actually mixes up the dough so easily! It is well made and very sturdy so I'm confident it will last for years. At around $10 bucks the dough whisk wasn't a huge investment and I totally think it's worth it to have on hand, especially now I'll be making bread the old fashioned way more often. It's been a great few weeks for my kitchen and I love being inspired by all these appliances and gadgets that make life tastier.
