I had such a good day yesterday! It started with a trip to the restaurant supply store where I found the perfect container for making bread starter. It's a 6-quart plastic round tub with a tight fitting lid - exactly as recommended in the Bread Alone book. I bet my 'chef' will rise better in the larger area without deflating early.
I also got a great scoop for transferring flour from the giant pantry Tupperware to the smaller lazy Susan Tupperware. Works perfectly!
I splurged and chose a gorgeous, heavy, commercial 12" bread pan as well. This bad boy is going to be ideal for lovely big loaves of bread. A 9x5 pan is great for banana bread and lemon loaf but I find it too small for yeast bread. I always end up with a 'mushroom' top so this longer pan will be amazingly useful.
Not bread related, but I also grabbed a vegetable peeler that is very similar to my ancient Tupperware one. They no longer make that particular design and I love it so much. I find it difficult as a 'lefty' to get my hands on another peeler that works well for me. The Tupperware one is hanging on but if it ever falls apart or gets dull, well...I was worried!
After that stop we finally went to see Manchester By the Sea, a movie I really wanted to take my Boston-loving hubby to (had planned for Christmas but it was never playing nearby). We enjoyed some great popcorn (you know it's my favourite!) and loved the movie (Casey should win the Oscar).
Lastly, we hit the fancy burger place for a satisfying hamburger I've been craving for a while. Small patty, lots of veggies, and no fries so all in all a fairly healthy indulgence for date night.
So today, a loaf of bread is rising in the new pan (suited perfectly!) and I'm so pleased with all my purchases. The restaurant supply store is so awesome because you get commercial grade stuff at super prices; it makes it easy to outfit my kitchen with the tools I need and want! Next, I'll share the only impulse buy from the day. It's a gem and something I will have for the rest of my life and therefore, worth every penny. Hubby is pretty tolerant of my shopping sprees when it means tasty things will result...
Our Super Bowl menu includes delicious homemade foods prepared with all my appliances: baked beans in the Crock Pot, chicken wings in the Actifry, nachos in the oven, ribs in the Instant Pot, Buffalo sauce from the microwave, and ribs and wings finished on the bar-b-que. I guess I'll have to make Yonanas frozen treats for dessert!
Total irony... I have been baking bread lately too and just got a huge dough container... I'm using Artisan Bread in 5 Min/ Day book plus the No Knead Bread recipe from NY Times. :) Artisan book mentioned that Danish dough whisk, too! I might have to get one, I've been using my hands!!!
