Yet another awesome kitchen gadget, the Yonanas Healthy Dessert Maker machine, has been added to my stable (a birthday gift from my kids!). This little wonder (one of Oprah's top kitchen tool recommendations, by the way), turns frozen fruit into a treat that looks and tastes like soft-serve ice cream. I compare it to that frozen yogurt stuff you get from the mall, except there's no dairy in it at all. It's very simple to use - you plunge ripe, 'cheetah speckled' frozen bananas and fruit through a feed tube and out comes the magical concoction.
I couldn't wait to give it a try and I used a couple bananas I'd thrown into the freezer. Even though they were unpeeled (bananas should be peeled then frozen. I found out why. Difficult to peel, the skin kind of broke and chipped off, leaving a bitter layer. I was too excited though so I just pared away the tough bits with a knife), they turned out great!
You can use many frozen combinations, including mixed berries, mango, peaches, cherries, etc. and simply start and finish with a frozen banana. It's amazing how the cone-shaped insert, similar to a juicer but covered in trianglular blades, can turn the texture into that of a creamy, frozen dessert. The plain banana was good but the next day we tried it with mango/peach/strawberry and the bananas. Yum! Today we tried it with cherries and while more subtle, very tasty!
It's a little cold right now to crave such a frosty snack but I bet in the summer it will be in big demand. It certainly satisfies an ice cream craving and makes a super low calorie snack. Another two thumbs up for this gadget.
The Instant Pot is being used daily and I'll share what I made for New Year's Even dinner in an upcoming post. So...amazing! My list of 'want to makes' is getting longer every day.
Happy New Year everyone and I hope 2017 gives you health and happiness! <3
