I bought this some time ago but haven't had a chance to share it yet. While there is nothing unique to this charming little Featherweight 221, she was too good to pass up at the price. Actually, when I went to an antique market that tell-tale black case was in the very first booth I visited. Knowing I certainly didn't need another Singer portable, I told the clerk I couldn't spend $200 on a machine. I threw out a number, saying I was thinking more like $150, secretly hoping my offer would be rejected so I didn't have to explain to the family why yet another straight-stitcher was coming home with me!
Within 10 minutes of leaving, the clerk called my cell and said the vendor accepted my offer. I did ask my fellow collectors what to do and it was unanimously decided I must take it - if only to sell to the next avid 221 fan! So, there she sat at my feet. She had so much thread wrapped around her hook but overall, was in terrific condition - maybe even better than the one I had at home. She sews beautifully and might just have to stay with me as a back-up or travel machine for my retirement! ;)
