Once I had my dust cover fabric sandwich quilted I cut it into the pattern pieces. It was a little trickier doing this because of the thickness of the batting but I managed to get them pretty close to the required size. I used my homemade letter tiles to keep each piece organized - worked great!
I used my serger to finish off the raw edges so the inside of the cover would have a nice and tidy look. It was so fun to zip the fabric through my Juki. I don't get to use it as often as I'd enjoy but when I do, I'm so glad to have it. Joining the pieces was really easy (my experience with Kool Aid bags made the process a little bit more familiar). I did need to add some hook and loop tape tabs (i.e. Velcro) down the two akwardly shaped centre panels but my Horizon stitched through it no problem. However, I soon realized after sewing down 3 matching hook pieces that I'd happily sewn them to the TOP of the fabric! Of course, this side of the Velcro needed to be on the underside of the panel so it could pair up with the loop side. I simply used my seam ripper to tear them out and started again.
I fitted my cover to my machine and pinned up the bottom edge to size it properly. Trimming the fabric was a little scary but once I applied some binding, it looked great! It actually fits very well, has room to allow the thread stand to poke out, and covers the power cords, hand wheel, and touch screen perfectly! I am amazed that I really did make it and quite proud of myself. I would have preferred it to have a bit more structure but I'm not sure if you could add some interfacing inside before quilting. Does anyone know if I could have done that? Either way, it will definitely keep the dust off my Sweet 16 and certainly looks much better than a sheet!
Tomorrow I'll share the final addition in Part 3. I couldn't just leave the cover plain and instead created a pretty embellishment to make it my own...
That looks pretty! :)
