Even though I've used the Pedal Mat for a couple of years, I still have trouble with the foot control of my sewing machine inching itself away from me as I sew. I've kept my eye open for a different product and only now just found the Foot Pedal Get-a-Grip pad. I bought it from Connecting Threads and it was $14.99.
The Get-a-Grip, made by Martelli, is a board with no-slip material on both sides, with a kind of an ultra-suede or microfibre texture. Since I have slippery wood laminate flooring, I think this will grip well and I hope it will prevent my migrating machine pedal. I will start work on my Frozen quilts this week and can't wait to try the Get-a-Grip out and see how it performs. It definitely feels very solid under-foot and is more substantial than the other pedal mat I tried (which used to wrinkle over on itself). If it works it will be worth the $15 so I will let you know how it goes! One thing the packaging stresses is that the board must be kept free of any dirt or thread. The no-slip material can be maintained by wiping down with a mild cleanser, such as dish soap.
