I got the entire Frozen quilt top pieced together and started to work on the second one. I am much faster with the latter since I've worked out the 'bugs' already. I like the solid blue fabric I chose for the inner borders and I think it matches well.
I finished appliqueing the remainder of the snowflakes and I set them out as closely as I could to the first quilt's arrangement. Those pieced borders went together very quickly despite me doing them a pair at a time so I wouldn't get mixed up. I also had to hurry because my Horizon had to go in for her annual cleaning. (Sob! Sob!)
When I started to piece the Frozen print fabric outer border I proceeded to make my usual diagonal seams. I quickly realized that wouldn't work since when I flipped the second strip of fabric up the picture was upside down! I had to use a straight-seam join and couldn't match up the repeat in the print either so don't look too closely! Overall, I don't think anyone would really notice they aren't a continuous piece of fabric and the quilt will look great when it's all done and quilted.
Now that my Horizon is gone I will do some simple sewing on my 3160 to keep busy. I already cut the binding strips and can easily work on those with my smaller machine without causing any problems because of the difference in 1/4" feet (I like to keep the seam allowances on the blocks the same by sticking with the same machine for all the stitching). I can also join the outer border strips and if I have time I will start on the backing fabric. The flannel print backing has been serged and washed so I only need to cut it apart and piece it down the middle.
I still don't think I will get these done by Christmas...although, the quilting will be fairly simple (straight line quilting in the borders and outline quilting in the panel). I can't wait to get them finished and bound and then I think I will add some heat-set crystals to the dress bodices. I'll have to see how my December schedule pans out!
That looks great! I love the blue you chose for the borders. The snowflakes turned out really nice.
