I made two more meals in the slow cooker using the flavour packets I bought. The chicken stew was very thick and tasty and was very similar to the base layer of a chicken pot pie. It smelled really good cooking and the flavour was appetizing. Hubby really liked that one. I always have a hard time deciding what to serve with that kind of dish because it already provides the starch (potatoes) and veggies.
The pot roast was very good as well. As my butcher said, you could put shoe leather in a slow cooker and have it come out tender! I bought a nice cut of roast and it was very tender and shredded when I tried to slice it. The veggies were so good (I added shallots to the standard carrots, celery, and potatoes) and the gravy was terrific. However, I probably wouldn't buy the spice mix again because I've had good results using an old stand-by crock pot recipe for pot roast, without any added chemicals that you always find in packaged mixes.
Both were great meals which we thoroughly enjoyed - although the weather has been warm and fantastic for fall and we needn't have hunkered down with a hearty meal like stew or pot roast. If the deck furniture hadn't already been put away for the winter we could've had a bar-b-cue and dinner al fresco!
