I was able to finish gluing all my DWR arcs and didn't quite run out of Quilter's Choice glue. It got a little more difficult to get a steady stream as the glue level went down but in between arcs I kept the bottle upside down in a cup so I wouldn't have to squeeze as hard and aggravate my thumb joint.
It was touch and go as I approached my last few plum arcs but it felt so good to finish up the last one - with just enough glue to spare to tack down the arcs when I position them on the blocks. The 194 paper pieced arcs look impressive (to me, anyway!) in my storage container and represent so much time and work. I am excited to start appliqueing them down to the background fabric but that part of the journey will have to wait for me to get back from vacation. I kept thinking to myself 'can you imagine if I've done something wrong and they don't fit????' (Let's hope not!).
I happened to make one extra blue arc by mistake (???), which irritated me when I discovered I was 7 squares of fabric short, but it actually turned out to be very beneficial because I need to practice and test the blanket stitch and machine settings before I start on the 'real' blocks. The extra arc will allow me to see what length and width stitch I will need on the real applique piece and how stitching over the edge of fabric and paper will work under my presser foot. Instructor Gail from The Classic Double Wedding Ring class goes quite slowly and uses the smallest stitch she can see. Perhaps I will engage the magnifying glass part of my OttLite floor lamp (which has worked out wonderfully for me, by the way). I almost want vacation to go quickly so I can get back to sew!
I still plan on purchasing some more Quilter's Choice. With paper piecing and applique in my future I will no doubt be needing a great glue. I couldn't find any in Canada and didn't want to buy any other brand because I like Quilter's Choice so much. I am hoping to buy it from Gail Kessler herself as I am passing very close by her store, Ladyfingers Sewing Studio. I hope I get to meet her in person!
