I couldn't resist the new Craftsy class 20 Fresh Appliqué Techniques with Amanda Murphy. This is the 3rd of Amanda's classes I've taken (the other two being Elegant Machine Embroidered Bags and Elegant Embroidered Quilts) and she is such a sweet teacher with gorgeous designs. I've successfully completed a couple of her projects, luggage tags and the Garden Walk Runner, which I think is still one of the nicest things I've ever made!
This time Amanda is using applique to create and embellish a quilt, table runner, pillow, and table topper. She shares so many great lessons on various techniques from the prep stage to the stitching. I really wanted to learn how to do concave and convex curves properly and also how to use the decorative stitches on my machine to sew down the edges.
One project that really got me excited was the Hawaiian Table Topper because Amanda demonstrates how to do a trapunto technique. The topper also has yo-yos on it which I have never made. It looks like so much fun to make and of course I had to pick up a Clover yo-yo maker! I can't wait to try it!!!
Amanda ends the course with some ideas and suggestions for how to quilt appliqued projects, which can be a little tricky and mystifying. Now that I am looking for some smaller quilting projects I think making a few of these super cute and manageable home dec items will be a lot of fun. You can click on any of the links above to check out all of Amanda's great classes over at my beloved Craftsy.
