I got all my cutting done and I can tell this Downton Abbey Double Wedding Ring quilt will be a labour of love. Even though the cut squares of fabric will just be used to paper piece, I still cut them as precisely as I could - to practice my
rotary cutter skills and to preserve the remaining fabric in a large-as-possible, squared piece. Sub-cutting the strips 7 at a time helped speed things along and after a few different ways, I got into the groove. I did indeed bag them up by groups in both colourways and labeled them to correspond to my foundation paper arcs.
The fabric cutting seems like a dream job (even though it totalled more than 1300 squares!) now that I've moved onto cutting out the 197 arcs. I didn't have enough Carol Doak paper left (about 65 sheets) so I thought I would start with those and see how I got on. I proudly printed off all 65 after ensuring that I had my printer set to the correct 100% scale. Unfortunately, I then realized that I should have cut out the 2 sections of arcs, taped them together, and THEN photocopied them. Luckily, I was able to just flip over my foundation papers and print on the other side without too much ink showing through. Even though I screwed up I was more relieved that I didn't have to tape together 197 arcs! Cutting them out whole is kind of a pain as it is since the paper is so thin and I need to cut precisely at the line so my arcs are consistent and smooth-edged. I thought I'd start with the 45 needed of one colour but that's taking longer than I thought. One step at a time, right???
Speaking of a labour of love, we celebrated our twins' 19th birthday on the weekend. 19 is legal drinking age in this part of Canada so once again I had to pay up to honour their Contract for their Future. It's a little tougher paying out two contracts at one time but it has been worth every penny!
The fabric is gorgeous and I am so excited to see how it goes!!! :) Also, wish I could see your poor neighbor's yard. It's probably full of hats by now. ;)
