I'm on the last quilt top I had left to quilt, the Spools quilt. I didn't have as much luck preparing the backing for this quilt as I did the Secret Garden quilt. I would have liked to do the same technique for piecing large print fabrics, which worked absolutely perfectly for hiding the seam, but it requires extra fabric which I didn't have in this case.
I ordered some yardage of Honeysweet from Fig Tree by Moda, which I think is so pretty. The print is a lot smaller than the Belle fabric I used on the Secret Garden quilt so the seam is not as obvious. I think it turned out pretty well and will probably be even less noticeable once I have quilted it.
I plan on using my Horizon to quilt this as I want to have a lot of control and do some custom quilting around the spools. I was very careful when I pieced this top and my workmanship is probably the best it's been. I want to make sure the quilting compliments the design and highlights those spools. I'm very excited to get to it and finish up this sweet quilt.
Having assembled three quilts in a row I'm definitely not intimidated by backings as much any more! It has been kind of fun to knock out these projects consecutively and even though it took a lot of time to do, it kind of feels like I'm in mass production since they all finished up at roughly the same time.
