Last week I wrote about Aurifil thread and how much I enjoyed working with it. That lovely cotton thread, made in Italy, is special and luxurious...and expensive!
Now, I'm no thread snob and I purchase and use all kinds of thread. I really like using So Fine polyester thread but I order it from Superior Threads which can take a while to arrive in Canada.
As I was placing my last order with Connecting Threads I decided to give their Essential Pro Polyester thread a try. It is only $5.99 for a 3315 yard cone! I figured I had little to lose by trying it and just might find it a nice, all-purpose polyester thread.
I bought a cone of white and a cone of natural to start with, judging they would be the most versatile for quilting (and good for piecing if it turns out not suit my quilting needs). Apparently it is quite suitable for long arm quilting so it just might work nicely with my 1600P/frame set-up. Here are the features of the thread:
Essential PRO is made of 100% polyester, has a matte finish and can be used on cotton quilts. Fewer adjustments mean it's perfectly suited to your long arm machine. Also works well in the bobbin.
- Designed by long arm quilters for long arm quilters
- 100% polyester size 70/3
- Smooth & lint-free
- Excellent quilting definition
- Matte finish, looks similar to cotton
- Won't shrink in the wash
- 3315 yards.
- Can also be used in home sewing machines with a cone thread adapter
I'm looking forward to giving the Essential Pro a try and seeing how it performs. I'll let you know what I think. Funny enough, I was emailing back and forth with my quilting friend Pam and she just happened to mention "Another thread I love is the Connecting Threads Essential Pro cones. Yes, they're polyester (but if you listen to Bob from Superior Threads, polyester is fine on cotton quilts). It's very fine and matte finish - and cheap - $5.99 for a huge cone." This was a day after I had, on a whim, ordered my Essential Pro! I feel good knowing I have a personal recommendation for it.
