I picked up my first issue of Quilty magazine, from Fons & Porter, when I went to New York. I had wanted to take a look at this modern quilting magazine geared (I think) to a younger, hipper audience so I was really excited when I found it.
I got the May/June issue and I really like it. Mary Fons is the editor (I wrote about watching her QuiltCon lecture here) and I knew her quirky style would probably translate to the content of the magazine.
There are a lot of fun, modern quilt patterns to try (and I want to!) as well as great articles like '5 Longarmer Methods' and '9 Careers in the quilt Industry'. These are things that definitely interest me. Add in some tips sections and a 'what to add to your shopping cart' page and I'm reading cover to cover. There are also really cute doodle drawings and notes, as well as suggestions for quilting designs for the projects - I love that! Even though I actually like them, there are NOT many ads in this magazine. The only problem is I'm greedy and this cool magazine only comes out every other month! Now that I've decided not to renew my Quilting Arts magazine subscription, I think Quilty will takes its place in my mailbox!
