I have received a couple more issues of Quilting Arts Magazine that I haven't reviewed yet. As soon as I pull the newest edition out of the mailbox I'm so excited to read it...but then...I don't.
I find it so heavily weighted to techniques like hand-dying fabric or obscure methods for adding colour or texture to art quilts that I think it is out of my league. It's definitely geared to the true artist with very in-depth articles about professional's methods and techniques. I'll look at the ads and read the smaller tips and Q&A sections but overall I'm not interested enough in the meat of the articles to actually get through them.
While I found the Quilting Arts show with Pokey Bolten to be just the right amount of accessibility and inspiration, and very relatable to the average quilter, the content in the magazine is too sophisticated for my level and interests. It doesn't offer me the kind of instruction I was expecting for completing actual small art projects that are easy for the 'dabbler' to do.
I will still keep the issues I've received and who knows, I may just change my focus down the road and look into trying some of the 'fancy' ideas...but I don't think I'll be renewing my subscription when it runs out... It's a beautiful magazine and the content is nicely presented for the serious art quilter...that's just not me right now.
