I really, really want to attend a quilt festival, convention, or conference but have not yet been able to go. Until I get the chance to participate in person (some of these classes have quite an expensive registration fee), I am very pleased that Craftsy has offered FREE Quilt-Con lectures from the 2013 series.
I've watched several of the speakers so far, of course starting with my favourite, Angela Walters. It was so cool to be able to see what she is like on stage and obviously, I was extremely interested in her topic of modern machine quilting. She is such a doll! She has great stories and shows examples of all her quilting designs. She gives lots of information about deciding on which designs to choose for a modern quilt and answers questions from the audience. I was always really curious if I would enjoy a 'talk' in addition to 'hands on' classes and I know now that it is so interesting to hear the perspective of the artist herself.
Recently our PBS station ended its run of Quilting Arts tv and the time slot was filled with the Fons & Porter quilting show. I'd only seen the famous Mary Fons on a couple of Quilty on-line episodes so I watched her lecture next. She is quite quirky but it was definitely enlightening to get her perspective on being a "quilt mafia daughter". She's a natural on stage!
There are a couple other names in the series which I recognized, like Amy Butler and Jacquie Gering, and I'm sure Heather Jones and David Butler have great speeches as well. I'm fairly new to quilting so I'm not familiar with all the famous quilters yet! Anyway, I feel like I was at least privy to the conference even if I couldn't be there in person. It's great to hear these professional quilters and there are a wide range of topics covered. It's also actually a rather good seat watching on my i-pad from the comfort of my sofa! Check out the series HERE on Craftsy if you're interested in hearing the speakers and don't forget it's completely FREE!
