I just can't get enough of 'in the hoop' embroidery projects! I don't really embroider clothing so I want to make other things using my machine. Piece in the Hoop, by Larisa Bland, is a 'Create with Nancy' publication which includes a DVD of video demonstrations and the digital files needed to make the projects.
This book focuses on piecing quilt blocks in the hoop which are then joined to make quilts and other home decor items. Combining quilting and machine embroidery is the perfect mix of my interests and allows me to get even more out of my embroidery machine. The maximum size hoop needed is 5x7" and there are 20 projects to make. There are lots of little tid-bits from Nancy on the pages of the book and the DVD is helpful to see the process in action.
I laughed when I opened up the book to see in the very first project the requirement of a mini iron! I had just purchased the Clover Mini Iron II to use for adhering small applique shapes on quilt blocks and was happy to see that I would need it for the projects in this book as well! Having 2 uses for it just makes my purchase seem more justified!
The book is sectioned into projects created using 6 different quilt blocks: the snowball, sunshine & shadows, economy patch, heart, log cabin, and pineapple. It will be interesting to see how these stitch out in an embroidery hoop!
Hi Angie, if you like in the hoop projects check out Embroidery Garden. They have some really nice things.
