Here is the stack of 21 Lady Liberty embroidered quilt blocks I made from the Machine Embroidered Quilting and Applique book by Eileen Roche. I think they are simply stunning!
I finished the three diamond blocks as well and am now working on the border pieces. I ran into a bit of trouble aligning the spikes on the sections required and I'm unsure of the trimming instructions - I don't want to trim off too much of the border since it was SO much work to get things lined up.
I have had so much fun choosing the fabric and thread colours and trying to get good contrast using what small stash I have. I am trying to eke out the quilt all in Batiks and I only have fat quarters to work with and one yard of the orange fabric shown on top. The project is great for using scraps for the applique but I wish I had more yardage for the borders and base fabrics. I wanted to try to use what I had instead of ordering more!
I am also proud that I have not used one new piece of batting so far. Machine embroidered quilting is perfect for using all the off-cuts of batting - small pieces trimmed from quilts before binding. I have managed to find just enough 9"-10" wide pieces to use in the hoop - that feels really good! Not only does it empty my scrap drawers but it saves me money. I knew I kept all those trimmings for a reason!
Here are some photos of my new work on this quilt. I must say I'm impressed! lol! The colours just look so entrancing to me!
