When I took my longarm lesson the instructors used this magnetic pin bowl to hold all the pins used to attach the quilt top and back to the leaders. It is a VERY powerful bowl! Hundreds of pins practically jumped into the dish and held tight. What is really nice is that it 'attaches' to the metal roller bars and won't budge. It made getting, and getting rid of, the pins so much easier when trying to wrangle the edges of the fabric onto the leaders, especially when in the centre of the king-sized frame.
During my last jaunt to the States I picked one up at Jo-ann's. I knew it wouldn't 'stick' to my aluminum roller bars but funny enough, it does 'stick' to the end of the wood frame because there is a big bolt inside it!
While the magnetic bowl is fabulous for holding the quilting pins for longarm work, it must be kept aways from computers, DVDs, and other sensitive electronic material. That worries me a little bit but I will be very diligent about where I set it down!
