Way back in the 80s I knit my husband a sweater for a Christmas gift when we were dating. I knit until my fingers cramped trying to get it all done for the holiday deadline! I don't think he's ever worn the sweater and I haven't knit since!
Well...during my 'fall cleaning' (see yesterday's post) I pulled out my old knitting bag from under the stairs. I dumped it all out and was VERY surprised by what I found!
I had the original pattern book with husband's sweater as well as one for a cotton knit sweater I was in the process of making for myself. That project was abandoned and pulled off the needles so my daughter could use them. But along with the knitting stuff I found remnants of my earliest days of sewing, back in the early 90s. Bits of fabric
(as well as the original pattern) from the one pair of over-alls I tried to make when my first kid was a toddler, as well as bias tape, snaps, pins, cute 'handmade by' labels...and...and entire quilt top panel! I have zero recollection of buying it but was pleasantly surprised to find it in a paper bag at the bottom of the stash. I have plenty of leftover batting and backing fabric to throw it together as a quilt and at the very least I can use it to practice my quilting. If it turns out nice enough I can donate it to the hospital or charity!
I cut up the nice chunck of red cotton juvenile print fabric and added it to the
'red' bin. I added all the notions to my storage containers and put the quilt panel in my to-do pile. Not a bad haul...considering it's been in my crawl space for almost 2 decades! lol! It was kind of fun to go through it all!
