I picked up this Better Homes and Gardens Complete Guide to Quilting from a close-outs/clearance book dealer. Once again, I wish I had this fantastic reference book at the beginning of this quilting journey!
The paperback guide is extremely thorough and covers every step in quilting, from the tools needed to begin sewing to hanging up the finished quilt. There are endless photos showing detailed illustrations to accompany the text and a comprehensive index so you can look everything up quickly.
I love the colour charts (there's a whole chapter of them!) and the many quick reference charts with yardage estimators for almost every scenerio, cutting measurements, calculators, conversions, and equivalents. At the end of each section are blank lined pages for notes on that particular topic. I don't think ANYTHING has been overlooked in this book!
There are beautiful examples in the quilting design gallery for inspiration and a whole chapter of specialty techniques as well. This is the ultimate reference book and I know I will refer to it for years to come. Believe it or not, this is the kind of reading I can do endlessly, at bedtime, on vacation, while waiting in the car or relaxing with a cup of tea! There is just so much to devour I may never get through it all! I highly recommend this book - it really is the 'complete' guide to quilting!
