What do crafters do in their spare time? They decorate their crafting tools! I've been meaning to add some sort of vinyl embellishment to my Cricut Expression for a long time and finally got around to doing it. My first thought was to add the word 'create' to the front of my machine but I didn't like the font on the version I had available on the Wall Decor and More cartridge. I leafed through the handbook and much preferred the 'inspire' cut under the Monogram Creative Function key (page 57, with the guitar icon). Since the whole point of my blog and youtube videos is to inspire the creativity in others, I knew it was the perfect choice!
I sized the icon on my Gypsy to fit the front lower door of my Expression. It turned out to be 7.79 in width and 2.53 in height. I cut brown vinyl using medium speed and pressure, with the blade set at 3. At first I thought I would just peel and stick the vinyl, but with all the tendrils coming off the letters it was way too fiddly to try to position free-hand. Transfer tape to the rescue...although it took me quite some time, and a light-box, to align all the letters in a straight line and get the curly-cues where they were supposed to be. The little devils kept folding over onto themselves but luckily they didn't tear when I pulled them apart.
Finally I got the vinyl down on the transfer tape and DS, of all people, helped select the left location on the cover for the word (as opposed to the centre). Great decision, as the word doesn't cover or detract from the Cricut logo and it looks great! I'm really happy with the way it turned out and now I'm going to pick something to decorate my Baby Bug!
