This is kind of weird but since I ordered a bunch of magazine subscriptions from my son's school fund raiser, I seem to be flooded with unread reading material. One thing I like to do when I first get a new mag in the mail is go through it and tear out all the pages with advertisements on both sides. First of all, you would not believe how many pages that actually is: it takes about 20 just to get to the first article! When you have torn all those away (they actually come out very easily) there is about 1/3 less of the magazine. With fewer pages and each one containing something potentially valuable to look at, you know you can save time flipping to where you want to go (how many of us use the table of contents in a magazine?). You also get a quick overview of the articles and even if you just leaf through, grabbing a brief moment to read, it's much faster to find something worth your time. Of course, there are still the 1/2 and 1/4 page ads (be careful not to rip out those pages that contain partial stories) but with the bulk of advertisements gone you can enjoy some "commercial free" articles.
