With the arrival of springtime and the warm weather comes the job of window cleaning. There is nothing like clean windows to brighten up the appearance of the home and let the sunshine in, and there are probably fewer jobs that people dread doing! But like anything, with the right tools and knowing how to do it right, it really isn't too bad a chore and at least you only need do it a couple times a year.
I like to assemble everything first: bucket, cloths, apron, towels, extension poles, gloves, ladder. The most important tool of all is a very high-quality squeegee. I got mine here at the Clean Team. I cannot say enough great things about my squeegee and if you have any windows in your home that you want to clean yourself, well, you owe it to yourself to get one. I have had mine for years and it is still in perfect working order. On the Clean Team website you can get lots of information about the process of window washing and plenty of tips and hints. Basically, you wash with a scrubby pad, dry a path for the squeegee, and squeegee off the water and dirt, wiping the blade dry after each run. It's pretty fast once you get going and the steps in the Spring Cleaning book make the whole process almost enjoyable! I will give you one great hint now: to make a super solution in your bucket, add a tablespoon of CASCADE dishwasher powder to cool water. Makes sense, huh? Helps rinse off glass without streaking and evapourates slower so you have time to squeegee. Economical too! (And no stink, like ammonia...the next best choice for window cleaning.)
So don't be hesitant and gather your supplies. You know it needs to be done so you might as well make it as simple and fast as possible so you can get on with enjoying your weekend - (but know in advance, you will be so dazzled by the reflective sheen on your windows you won't be able to concentrate on anything else!)
