I was telling my friend about the silly, fun thing we did as a family over the weekend and decided I would share it here too, seeing as it involves healthy activity. We were all sitting there watching the Olympics on t.v. and the snowboarding looked like so much fun to me. Then I had an idea: we should have our own winter games and compete in different events, with score keeping and a medal ceremony at the end...and since we live in a pretty flat area...AND it's freezing outside...I thought the perfect challenges could be found right on our Wii Fit. Well, I can't believe it, but everyone went along with the plan - DD even wrote up a tally sheet and suggested we all pick countries to represent and outfit ourselves accordingly. We even got the boyfriend and granny in on the action. It was hilarious: we competed in snowboarding, ski jumping, downhill slalom, and the penguin-fish eating-slide balance game, some with practice runs and some just "going for it"! We ended up having a great time and it was a cute way to make the Olympics a little more relevant to the kids. We have been enjoying watching the races on t.v. and I didn't think I would get so excited watching the snowboarding and downhill! Man, they go fast!! The boys are very excited about the men's hockey and we all watched some speed skating (and of course, the Opening Ceremonies - K.D. Lang is amazing!). Well, I just thought maybe this idea would give you some inspiration on something you can try to organize for your family - whether it's food or sports, having a theme makes it easy to put together an afternoon or evening of (cheap) fun that everyone can participate in, young and old. Oh, and those medals? Made with the Cricut of course! And there was a monetary incentive to win in the centre...(the Gold is actually gold paper, but it didn't show up too well in the photo)...and I know this well because...I WON the gold! :0)
Oh I love this idea!! Great great great! I'm in the process of organizing our little family olympics too! :) How do I manage hurt feelings for those who don't get a metal? Well.. hmmmm... ;) thanks for sharing all your wonderful ideas with us! You've enlightened my family with Olympic goals!
