I made this little matchbox for a very sad reason: my wonderful angel fish, Cruella, is sadly on her last legs...fins. The poor old dear is hovering near the top of the tank, kind of sideways, and not looking very perky. I feel really badly for her and considered administering some sort of fishy CPR but since she's sort of flat...well, I wasn't sure how to do that. I thought, when the inevitable occurs, that she deserved better than a flush and thus the "Life's A Beach" Cricut cartridge came to mind. I didn't want to embellish too much - Cruella is a low-maintenance kind of gal - and I thought the humble box would bio-degrade nicely, planted in our yard.
In her prime (see her publicity shot, right) Cruella - named for her Dalmation-coat appearance, delighted and amused us with her ability to connect one-on-one. She would actually follow your face along the tank, beg for food, wag her tail, and come up to the surface to offer finger-tip kisses. She had the most impressively long fins, gracefully flowing under her as she swam. We got her in June, 2002 - making her at the very least 7 years old. I'm not sure what the life-span of an angel fish is but we are very sorry to see her go. She has been with my twins for over half their lives and the old fishin' hole just won't be the same without her.
Well, don't know what I'm making for dinner tonight but I'm pretty sure it won't be fish.
Amazing story! Sorry to hear that she's unwell...
