I remember back in the late 80s when they couldn't keep oat bran on the store shelves - the medical researchers had touted the cholesterol-sucking benefits of this whole grain, cooked cereal and consumers were buying it up like crazy! Fast-forward to now and I wonder if people even eat it any more. I distinctly recall when a Pampered Chef demonstrator was telling me about the wonders of bamboo spoons and how they don't transfer flavours from one dish to another...and I said "Great! I hate when your oat bran tastes like last night's onions!"...she looked at me like I had 3 eyeballs: "Why would you even be making that?"
Well, the health rewards of eating oat bran are still there waiting for you, and dagnabbit, I like the taste! I never even eat it with sugar, just straight out of the bowl with milk and fruit...and you know what? Sometimes I don't even stir it well so that it's extra lumpy!
Early start today - off to a university open house with my daughter...yikes! Seems like yesterday I was feeding her baby porridge off a little Gerber spoon!
