Hello everyone! We have just come back from a vacation to DisneyWorld so for today's post I thought I would share a little bit of our holiday with you - it's still about "cooking", it's just someone else in the kitchen!
We tried to make this trip all about the food and Chef Mickey's was one stop on the tour. (Ok, "Chef" is probably a bit of a stretch but the character dining experience was new for us and it is pretty fun to have Goofy and Minnie come right to your table!)
One of the most enjoyable treats we sampled was this vanilla malted from the 50s Prime Time Cafe. This old fashioned soda fountain original was so thick and malt-y...absolutely wonderful! It was served to me by "Cousin Laurie" who made us feel at home in mom's kitchen...she sat right down with us to take the order, reminded us "no elbows on the table", and we even had to set the table ourselves! Really fun!
Another night we experienced the "Spirit of Aloha" dinner show at the Polynesian Resort. Wow, that was amazing! Not only did we get a feast of salad, pineapple, ribs, chicken, rice and vegetables, we saw an incredible array of traditional South Seas dancers. We really enjoyed the Pineapple-Coconut Bread and I think I have the recipe in the Mickey cookbook I bought last year. I will research that and give it a try...if it works out I'll definitely share it with you - such a unique flavour!
Probably our favourite dining experience was at the Yak & Yeti restaurant in the Animal Kingdom. This Asian-setting eatery offers the most amazing pot stickers and we enjoyed the jasmine rice and noodle dishes. Having a brother who lived in Nepal 3 months of the year, I can guarantee that the decor and music are 100% authentic!
We had a really great vacation in Disney - which for us is all about being kids again with our children and sharing the adventure as a family - which becomes more challenging the older they get! We always enjoy ourselves and find new things to discover every time we go. The best thrill this year? Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith! Oh man, was this ride fast and exciting!
After I get through all the laundry (and scrapbooking the 604 photos I took) I hope to be back at the video camera shooting some new recipes for you...until then, thanks for stopping in!
