Earlier in the week I wrote about the Ultimate Marking Pencil I ordered from the Full Line Stencil website and also about my excitement over the other product available at the website - the stencils!
Once I read about the innovative and ingenius way the Full Line stencils are created and used, I knew I had to add some to my order.
The stencils are made from an almost indestructible nylon mesh. They work by allowing the chalk from the Pounce Pad to go through the design in the screen mesh. Since the design isn't cut out from plastic, as with regular stencils, there are no breaks in the design. The complete pattern is transferred to the quilt top and can be followed along with stitches. There's no need to fill in the design or 'guess what happens next'...it's all there ready to quilt. That also makes the transfer process super fast and easy and that means you get to the quilting sooner! If you enjoy quilting stencil designs I encourage you to check out the website to read a more detailed description of the method - I think it's fabulous!
There are tons and tons of cool designs to choose from. I had a hard time picking because they are all so beautiful and fun but I knew I wanted to keep things small in case I'm using my 1600P on the frame to quilt where I am limited to about 5". I started with #30446 Madame Butterfly because I know in the back of my head that I will someday do a butterfly-themed quilt. This particular design comes with a smaller and a larger butterfly. Because the motifs are continuous line designs it will be quite simple to free-motion quilt!
The next stencil I chose happens to be one of the most popular: #30692 Score of Four which contains 6 different 4" size motifs. These will be perfect to fill 4-5" blocks (ideal for my frame system quilting) and they can be used square or on point.
Here are two more designs added to my order - how cute would #60002 Baby Hands and Feet be in the border of a baby quilt??? #30519 Paisley Pineapple would look awesome in a border and in a block! I think the resulting texture would be incredible! I think I'd use this design quilting on my Horizon.
The stencils are durable and can be used countless times. If they get dusty they can be wiped with a damp cloth or microfiber towel and can even be ironed clean if you are using them with the white pounce powder! The mesh stencils can be stored flat or hanging on a hook or even rolled up. I'm so excited to give these a try and let you know how they turn out. I have a feeling I will be adding stencil designs to many more quilts now that I have such a good system and many fun designs to play with. Definitely go check out all the other designs available - there are continuous line designs and motifs for almost any theme! From baby bottles to dolphins, from a car to flames, you will surely find a Full Line Stencil to match your quilt.
