I was given this cool item as a gift. It's called a SoapRocks Birthstones soap. This beautiful "stone" of soap is a vegetable glycerin bath soap with added extracts of earth (eg. lavender, vitamin E, olive oil, almond oil, etc.), with designs based on your birth month.
While the soap is lovely to look at beside the sink or tub, resembling the spectacular and sublime beauty of nature's precious stones, they are actually very mild and extra long-lasting. According to the flyer, "as they gently cleanse each soap will weather away like a stream stone in geologic lime, ever so slowly exposing the beauty locked away within".
Mine (December) is 'Turquoise', a stone reported to be a "pain reliever and offer protection for travelers from disease and injury". I don't know about that claim but it sure does smell good and looks so pretty! It's kind of hard to pick up and lather but I still love how it looks and smells. It came with a wooden soap dish as well! I'm sure it will last a loooong time since it's darn near boulder size!
I couldn't find a website for these cool soaps made by t.s.pink in Oneonta, NY but a search showed they once sold on QVC and there are some on ebay. I think they can be purchased at fine, unique gift shops...Google it to see if they are available near you!

These come in about 47 varieties and can be found online at sever retailers -- including http://www.cattails.com. There are 3 size of these soaps, as well as some that look like wood -- SoapWoods.
